Education Week, 2012!

May 21st to May 25th - Wodonga West Primary School

Education Week will be celebrated from in May 2012 when kindergartens and government schools throughout Victoria will open their doors to parents and their broader communities through information nights, open days, student displays, performances and other special events that showcase their programs and achievements.

Education Week coincides with Library and Information Week in 2012, which – coupled with Australia’s year-long celebration of literacy through the National Year of Reading – presents the opportunity for schools and kindergartens to consolidate their involvement in these activities and to highlight the importance of reading and literacy skills in a child’s early learning and education journey.

At Wodonga West Primary School we will be having a range of events and showcases that are open to parents, friends, prospective students, and every member of the local community. We hope to see as many people visiting our school and celebrating the work and achievements of our students as is possible.

On Monday the 21st of May, we will be holding School Tours. Anyone wishing to participate in a school tour needs to call the office to confirm a time - the number is (02) 6024 1188. There will also be tours operating each and every morning next week - just ring and book a time that suits you.

On Tuesday we will be holding our first 'Bring and Brag' session - just for LC3. Students in Prep, Year One and Year Two will be reading the books they have written for the first annual 'Wodonga West Book Awards' - so come along to the resource centre to see and hear their creations! The Bring and Brag will be held between 2:230 and 3:15 - all welcome.

On Wednesday the 23rd of May we will be celebrating our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen program between 9:00am and 11:00am as we hold 'Junior Masterchef'! The best student cooks at our school will be competing - I am sure the results will be tasy!

At 11:00am, the Junior Students will join in the National Simultaneous Story Time and read 'The Very Crnky Bear' by Nick Bland - at the same time as hundreds, even thousands, of other schools across Australia!

Finally on Wednesday afternoon, students in Year 3 and Year 4 will have their book Bring and Brag session in the Resource Centre. Some of their books are amazing - come along after 2:30 to see and hear their creations!

On Thursday the Bring and Brag time is for students in MYOS. Our Senior students will be sharing their books and Smories for any interested members of the community from 2:30 in the Resource Centre.

Friday is our traditional Pizza Oven Feast! At 10:45 there will be Hot Beef Rolls available for all visitors to our school. Bring along your favourite food-themed book and share these as you enjoy a delicious lunch. And why not take a tour of our Stephanie Alexander Garden at the same time?

We hope you are able to come and help Wodonga West Primary School celebrate Education Week 2012!
